JAMES HERRIOT'S YORKSHIRE

Photographs by Derry Brabbs, BCA 1980.

The most famous vet in the world writes about the Yorkshire of his books. He grew up in Scotland and settled into North Yorkshire at the start of his career. He has dedicated himself ever since to the Dales and the Vales and the hardy, genuine people who farm there.

In his success as an author he has been tempted to live elsewhere. He has never been able to bring himself to leave these good folk and their animals and the countryside he loves. He lives now beside a Yorkshire beck overlooking the area in which he has treated the animals on the farms and the pets of the local people for a generation

With the photographer Derry Brabbs, James Herriot revisits the places which have formed his life and where the stories in his books – all true – were born. He shows us the snowy hills where he had to hold on to a horse’s tail to climb up to his patient, the little wooden Village Institute where he and Helen went dancing, the glorious moors and bracing, windy beaches where they played with their children, the long-silent, menacing lead mines, the breathtaking beauty of the dales.

Readers from all over the world have written to James Herriot: " I wish I could see the places you write about". In company with Derry Brabbs, James Herriot brings them very near.

Both the book and the dust jacket are in good condition, the pages are clean and tightly bound.
