THE WINDLESHAM/RAMPTON REPORT ON DEATH ON THE ROCK Lord Windlesham and Richard Rampton QC, Foreword by Sir Ian Trethowan, Faber and Faber paperback 1989. Death on the Rock, one of the most controversial television programmes of the eighties, acted as a lightning conductor for the intense feelings evoked by the shooting of three IRA terrorists in Gibralter. When it was screened by Thames Television on 28 April 1988, against the Government’s wishes, the ensuing furore led to an unprecedented inquiry. The Windlesham/Rampton report probes the making of a programme about an issue of high public importance in compelling detail, and in doing so provides a textbook study of the workings of television journalism in Britain today. Lord Windlesham was a Home Office and Northern Ireland Minister before a spell as leader of the House of Lords. He also has television experience, being a former managing director of two of the ITV programmed companies. Richard Rampton QC, is a leading member of the Bar with a practice specializing in defamation and media law. Apart from slight light tint to the page margins the book is in very good condition. A subject which stirred up a great deal of controversy at the time.
