Dr. Youngs beautifully illustrated history of music is packed with information on composers and the life of their times. He looks at music from its most distant beginnings to the present day, showing how it is concerned with life and usually composed according to principles which are rooted in the patterns of society. His emphasis is not so much on individual musicians as on music as a collective art. Although this is an ex school library copy, and has a small ownership stamp inside the front and rear covers, a library ticket on the fep, and a small rectangular stamp on the rear of the title page, it does not seem to have been much used. There is a minor bump to the top tips and some light tanning to the top and bottom edges of the cover boards. These things actually sound worse then they are however, and the pages are nice and clean. The book is illustrated in black and white and is very informative. |
