HISTOIRE DUN CONSCRIT DE 1813 Erckmann-Chatrian, Macmillan and Co., 1914, a presentation copy, in French. With a selection of poems on Napoleon 1, Adapted and Edited by Otto Siepmann, crown 8vo, 190 pages. The story of a French peasant who is conscripted to the war of 1813 1814. The man is a partial invalid whose life and love is ruined by the war. A powerful anti-war novel, in a similar vein to others written by the same two authors. There is no dust jacket and there are some marks and stains to the cover boards. There is slight light tinting to the edges of some pages (extremely light!), and a few very light vertical production creases to the end pages, and also to the fold out map of the final Battle of Leipzig. These faults are quite minor really, the book is in good condition for a novel which is in its tenth decade! |
