THE RAPE OF VENICE Dennis Wheatley, Hutchinson 1st 1959. In the summer of 1796 Roger Brook, somewhat unwillingly, undertook a new secret mission for his master, Mr. Pitt. It brought him in contact with Rinaldo Malderini a Venetian Senator, who was a disciple of the devil and his wife Sirisha a beautiful Indian Princess. The mission fizzled out but the damage had been done. Roger and the evil occultist had met; Fate took charge with terrible results for both. This copy has a dust jacket which is rubbed and creased at the extremes, with an odd light stain here and there, two (2cm) vertical splits along the top front edge, one the same at the bottom leading edge, two miniscule ones at the lower front towards the spine, and a small pull tear halfway down the spine at the rear. It is also sunned at the rim. The boards are also lightly sunned at the top edges and there are two minor bumps to the front board, one at the spine and one on the top edge. The book is ever so slightly cocked. The pages themselves, including the decorative endpapers are clean and tightly bound. Not in trouble free health then, but largely intact, and a first for the collection. |
