THE SCIENCE OF THE CLOUDS

 R.A.R. Tricker, M&B American Elsevier 1970.

Dr. Tricker begins his book by classifying the clouds and describing the significance of some of the names given to them. Though the subject can be better appreciated and understood to greater depth if the reader has some familiarity with mathematics and physics, Dr. Tricker has deliberately kept the required knowledge of these subjects to a minimum. Among the topics discussed are the causes and effects of fogs and smogs, the build-up of thunderstorms and cyclones and the optical effects of haloes and rainbows. The final chapter contains suggestions for experiments and observation on the part of the reader, through which he may increase his understanding and enjoyment of the natural history of the clouds. There are photographs in both colour and black and white and also diagrams. Both the book and the dust jacket are in good condition. A nice item for those whose interest lies in the weather and it’s study.
