Introduced by Germain Bazin, Paul Hamlyn 1969. France is a country with one of the richest and most varied artistic heritages in the world. For the first time a survey has been produced of the treasures created and collected in France through the centuries. Over 250 carefully selected items are illustrated, more than 100 in colour. A team of specialists have collaborated on the text which traces the history of art and architecture, of taste and patronage in France from the cave paintings of pre-historic man to the architecture of Le Corbusier. The works which are familiar to us as examples of styles and periods in art are here examined in their historical setting. Apart from some very light and limited minor creases to the top of the dust jacket, both the book and the jacket are in very good condition. The book is illustrated throughout in both colour and black and white. |
