THE STORY OF THE DOONES IN FACT, FICTION AND PHOTO

L.B. Thornycroft, Barnicotts Third Edition (further enlarged) 5th impression.

The author’s excellent book on the complete background to ‘The Doones’, a half-crown paper covered production with ‘ copious illustrations, maps of the district, Lorna Doone glossary, and a Somerset dialect glossary’. There is a large fold-out map of Exmoor District at the back of the book. The paper covers are a little worn and slightly creased here and there. There is some very light water staining to the top outer tip of most of the pages, covering, roughly about a tenth of the page, and very slight light tanning to the page edges, as have the folds of the map at the rear. Nevertheless, the book is a good reader copy and still tightly bound. A nice item which, although being popular at the time, may not have survived in too many numbers with having a paper cover. It is well written and informative and the photographs are very evocative.
