WORSHOP TECHNOLOGY PART ONE, AN INTRODUCTORY COURSE

 W.A.J. Chapman, 4th edition 1962.

Dr. Chapman’s book is a little gem for anyone studying workshop technology. There are 339 pages and twelve chapters covering the subject. Chapter one is the Introduction, followed by Materials – Iron and Steel, and covers different types of smelting; chapter two is ‘ The Properties of Iron and Steel and so on., heat processing, forging, riveting, metal cutting, scraping drilling and screwing, lathes and taper turning, shaping etc., At the back is an appendix covering tables of thread types and sizes and associated topics. An excellent item then.

There is no dust jacket, shelf rub to the top and bottom of the spine, and some rubbing to the extremes, with a very minor indent to the top of the front cover close to the leading edge. The boards themselves are just a tad grubby, they have obviously sat on a workshop shelf at some time. There is an owner’s name inscription in biro at the top inside cover. The gloss finish pages are very nice and clean however, the covers are sturdy and the whole thing is still tightly bound.

A good reference book for the workshop shelf anywhere.
