THE WORLDS ARMIES General Editor Chris Chant, David and Charles, 1979. An illustrated encyclopaedia of the ground forces of every nation with full specifications of their equipment and details of their strength and organisation (at 1979). For most countries their army is the most important of the three main armed forces, receiving the lion’s share of the annual defence budget. This is, of course, only natural, for, as a military truism states, no matter what else may be done in a ‘military situation’, in the long run it is the man with the bayonet who must go in to hold the ground. This book gives the size, weaponry, and, where possible, deployment. An excellent item for the military bookshelf. The dust jacket has a vertical tear (8cm?) fold, and some light creasing at the top front, the book is in very good condition. An interesting book. |
