CONFLICT IN SPACE, A PATTERN OF WAR IN A NEW DIMENSION

 M.N. Golovine, Temple 1st 1962.

Outer space as the potential theatre of war in a new dimension becomes less improbable as, with each new advance in space techniques, the struggle for weapon supremacy moves even further from the surface of the earth. In advancing this hypothesis – for he makes no claim to prophecy – the author of this challenging book surveys the immensely costly USA and USSR space programmes and analyses their military implications. He suggests how in the foreseeable future military and political superiority – if not outright world supremacy – could be gained by the victor in a protracted armed conflict in orbit – a process which he describes as Attrition in Space.

In this argument the premises may be open to question, but in the basic conception of peripheral war in outer space may well lie the future pattern of world power and the only alternative to certain world-wide devastation in the event of full-scale nuclear war.

The dust jacket is a little worn and light tanned, and there is a rather untidy name inscription on the fep . Other than this the book is in good condition, and is illustrated. This book was written well in advance of the ‘ Star Wars’ programme and must have therefore been ahead of it’s time. A thought provoking book.
