THE QUEEN’S RESOLVE, " I WILL BE GOOD" AND HER "DOUBLY ROYAL" REIGN, A GIFT FOR "THE QUEEN’S YEAR."

Charles Bullock B.D., Home Words, n/d but this edition circa 1900.

Originally published as a memorial to Queen Victoria’s Jubilee in 1887, the book, written by Charles Bullock B.D., formerly the Rector of St Nicholas’, Worcester is a charming piece of work in praise of the Queen and the Royal Family.

This is from a time when the church and state were much stronger than they are now, possibly the source of the ‘Great’ in Great Britain. There are some very good drawings of different members of the Royal Family, by various artists.

This copy has ‘Newton Solney Sunday School’ gold-blocked into the front cover. It has some nice touches to the production, such as bevelled fore and outer-edges to the cover boards. There is some rubbing and sunning to the outer edges and the spine is faded. There are a few pencil lines to rear of the frontispiece and a little scribbling on the title page. This is fairly light and doesn’t obscure any printing. The linen is showing on the hinge at the gutter. There is light foxing here and there, and slight light tanning to the page edges. There is a little slackness to the boards where the spine glue has dried out but it isn’t too bad.

This issue was ‘one hundred and seventy-fifth thousand’. A charming look at what, unfortunately, is a long lost Great Britain.
