BUSH TUCKER MAGIC

Edited by Jan Palethorpe, Fremantle Arts Centre Press 1997.

A fascinating book, accounts by Aborigine people of how to find and cook (or eat raw!) various types of Bush Tucker, both plant and animal. Accompanying each account is a coloured picture, using either linoprint or silkscreen. Swordfish, for instance, by Valerie Bird, is typical;

"You guts it out, then you just fry it with it’s own fat. Some people eat the fat from the stomach raw. Fry it the same as all fishes. You can cook shark the same way."

Right then, your place or mine? a very absorbing read for those who like to study the culinary skills of others. The artwork is equally good.
