A COLOUR GUIDE TO FAMILIAR FLOWERING SHRUBS

J.Pokorney

Octopus 1978

This book is intended to provide nature lovers with a better knowledge of the shrubs they may come across in the countryside as well as in the city. It contains 64 colour plates showing a flowering or fruiting twig of each shrub with the leaves, fruit and seed. The brief text accompanying each plate describes the morphological features and calls attention to the specific distinguishing features. Included in this book are common shrubs growing in the wild in western and central Europe, including Great Britain, as well as a number of shrubs that have become established in Europe through long cultivation and are commonly used in landscaping. Stated in each case is roughly the area of the shrub’s distribution and the characteristics of the locality where it is to be found. There are also notes on the species’ requirements as regards light, soil, moisture and fertility, and in some instances also their hardiness.

Apart from a little edge wear, mostly to the top and bottom of the spine, the book is in very good condition. The illustrations are particularly nice.
