CANTERBURY

 William Townsend

 Batsford

 Crown 8to, 87 pages, 1st 1950

The author, at school in Canterbury and a painter and historian with an interest in architecture, describes at length about the City of Canterbury in which he grew up. The Cathedral, archbishops, builders and monuments, the monastery of St. Augustine and the other religious houses, the weavers, the King’s School, the Cricket Week, and all of the other elements that have gone to make up the City of Canterbury through the centuries. It will be interesting to compare what changes may have taken place since this book was published over a half century ago

Apart from very slight edge wear to the jacket, two tiny splits at the top, one at the front, one at the top  rear spine, and a 2 x 4 cm piece missing from the top of the inside jacket fold, both the book and the dust jacket are in very good condition. Contains many black and white plates. The jacket cover picture is a water colour view of the Cathedral from across the rooftops by Brian Coom
