DANGER TO ELIZABETH

 Alison Plowden

 BCA

 8to, 267 pages, 1974

Alison Plowden’s book on the climate of fear and politics in Britain which caused great anxiety and soul searching amongst those Elizabethan Catholics who were also patriotic Englishmen, the choice between their country and their faith. The book concentrates on the period of Mary Queen of Scott’s captivity in England and ends with the crisis of the 1580’s when her continued existence had become insupportable to the English throne.

The dust jacket is worn and rubbed and has splits and creases at the extremes. The boards have light shelf wear and a couple of minor bumps. The page margins have the slightest hint of light tinting but this is very minor. An excellent work of reference for the wider historian or history teacher
