MARIE CURIE

Robin McKown

A&C Black

 Crown 8to, 112 pages, 1961

A moving but unsentimental account of the woman whose work began a new era  - the Atomic Age. Born in Poland, and developing an interest in science at an early age, she later studied in Paris where she met and married an ardent young scientist, Pierre Curie. Thus began one of the greatest scientific partnerships the world has known. Soon after their marriage Mme. Curie became interested in the strange rays emanating from uranium and she devoted the rest of her life to discovering their secrets. Eventually they became the cause of her death, but not before she saw the beginning of the great revolution which her success in this field had caused.

Slight shelf wear to both book and jacket, 3cm vertical split to the front jacket, close to leading edge, some dust stain and tape marks inside rear cover indicates a clear cover at some time, very minor, very clean and well bound, a bookplate (school prize) on the fep, illustrated by Lili Rethi
